Here is something I say to almost every client who sits down with me for the first time.
You were not born anxious.
When you came into this world, you arrived with confidence.
You let everyone know you were there and you asked to be fed.
You were completely yourself.
No apology.
No fear.
No second-guessing.
So what happened?
Think of your life as a jigsaw puzzle.
When you arrive in the world, that puzzle is completely blank. As you grow, you start collecting experiences.
Some wonderful. Some painful. Some that made complete sense at the time, and some that left you confused or frightened.
Your unconscious mind files every single one of them away.
Its job is to protect you. So it stores these memories like an enormous archive, ready to pull them out whenever it thinks you might need them.
Most of the time this works brilliantly. But sometimes a piece of that puzzle gets stuck.
It starts dwelling in one corner of the picture.
Replaying the same memory.
Running the same pattern.
Sending the same alarm signals, long after the original threat has gone.
And that stuck piece? That is something that does't sit quite right a type of anxiety.
Not a flaw. Not a weakness.
Not something that is fundamentally wrong with you.
Just a part of your mind that has been trying to help, and has got a little lost along the way.
For a lot of people, anxiety does not arrive all at once.
It creeps in gradually.
Life starts to feel overwhelming.
You begin pulling back from things, quietly and without really noticing at first.
Your world slowly gets smaller.
Things that once felt completely normal start to feel impossible.
Maybe you stop driving somewhere new.
Maybe you avoid certain social situations.
Maybe you find yourself lying awake at 3am with a mind that simply will not switch off.
The physical symptoms can be exhausting. A racing heart. Sweaty palms. A tight chest. Breathing that becomes shallow and erratic. A stomach that is constantly unsettled.
And then there are the panic attacks.
For many people, a panic attack feels terrifying the first time it happens. The physical sensations can be so intense that people sometimes think something is physically wrong with them. The heart races. The breath shortens. The world feels like it is closing in.
But here is what is important to understand.
A panic attack, however frightening, is not dangerous. It is your nervous system firing a very loud alarm. And just like any alarm, once you understand what is triggering it, you can start to reset it.
Many people try counselling or CBT before they come to me. And those approaches can be genuinely helpful. I would never dismiss them.
But anxiety does not always live in the conscious mind.
It lives deeper than that, in the unconscious mind, where all those jigsaw pieces and stored experiences are kept. You can talk about anxiety for years at a conscious level and still not reach the part of the mind where it actually lives.
This is not a failure. It is simply a question of access.
Hypnotherapy works differently because it works with the unconscious mind directly. It reaches the part where those stuck pieces are stored and gives them the opportunity to be gently updated.
When you are in a deeply relaxed and focused state, your unconscious mind becomes more open and receptive. It is in this state that the parts of you that have been running old patterns can be gently accessed and updated.
It is not about willpower.
It is not about positive thinking.
It is not about talking through your problems until you are exhausted.
It is about reaching the place where anxiety actually lives and giving it permission to move forward.
People often tell me afterwards that the experience felt surprisingly natural. That the changes felt effortless rather than forced. That one day they simply noticed they were doing something that used to feel impossible, and it just felt normal.
Sleep improves. Energy returns. A quiet confidence begins to emerge.
And that stuck piece of the jigsaw? It finds its place in the bigger picture again. Updated. Lighter. Finally feeling more confident to be a part of the bigger picture and able to move on.
You were not born anxious. And you do not have to stay this way.
Wherever you are with anxiety right now, whether it has been with you for months or decades, that stuck part of you has not gone anywhere. It is simply waiting to be heard.
It is not broken.
It is not permanent.
And it does not have to keep running the show.
If any of this resonates with you, I would love to have a conversation. I offer a free 45-minute consultation with no pressure and no obligation. It is simply a chance to tell me what is going on and for us to work out together whether hypnotherapy feels like the right fit for you.

Yes. Hypnotherapy works with the unconscious mind, which is where anxiety patterns are stored. By gently accessing and updating those patterns in a deeply relaxed state, many people find they experience meaningful and lasting change.
Everyone is different. Some people notice a significant shift after just a few sessions. Others benefit from a longer programme. During your free consultation we can talk about what is likely to work best for you specifically.
A panic attack typically involves a sudden surge of intense physical sensations including a racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness and a feeling of losing control. It is frightening but it is not dangerous. It is your nervous system firing an alarm, and with the right support, that alarm can be reset.
Not at all. Whether your anxiety is recent or has been with you for years, hypnotherapy can be effective. In fact, the longer anxiety has been present, the more that stuck part of you is ready to be heard and updated.
Yes. I work with clients across the UK online and the results are just as effective as working in person. Many clients actually find online sessions easier because they can be in the comfort of their own home.
Anxiety tends to be a more persistent background feeling of worry, dread or unease and is usually based on the future on something happening.
A panic attack is a sudden and intense episode of physical and emotional symptoms that usually peaks quickly and passes.
Many people experience both. Hypnotherapy can help with both and once the anxiety is heard, the panic attacks fall too.
